03:27 International Symposium Neurobiology of aging
The 34th International Symposium of the Groupe de recherche sur le système nerveux central (GRSNC) will be held on May 7-8, 2012 at Université de Montréal. It is organized by Dr. Richard Robitaille, Dr. Jannic Boehm, Dr. Karl Fernandes, and Dr. Nicole Leclerc (Université de Montréal). Aging is becoming a prominent health issue in Canada as the number of Canadians above 65 is growing steadily. Aging interferes with functions of the central and peripheral nervous systems and has become a major mental health issue. Concomitantly, the prevalence of diseases associated with aging has also increased steadily. In particular, Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of senile dementia in Canada, significantly affecting the daily lives of patients and their close relatives. It remains to be determined whether changes taking place in aging brain have an impact on the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease. Although in recent years, some glimpses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the loss of memory in Alzheimer's disease were revealed, it is still unclear what triggers this disease. In this symposium, a panel of international experts will provide their latest insights into the neurobiology of aging and Alzheimer's disease. The topics covered will span the range from molecular alterations to global perturbations of neural networks, providing novel perspectives on the potential relationship between the processes of aging and Alzheimer's disease. Aging and Alzheimer's disease might be walking down the same road, but when and where do they part? The presentations are divided in four sessions: Global pertubation of neuronal circuits and networks Mechanisms of altered cell-cell communication Intracellular signaling mediating neural degeneration Birth in death : saving neurons and rejuvenating the brain See the detailed program. Submissions are invited for a limited number of poster presentations. Registration deadline: Thursday, May 3rd 2012 Abstract submission deadline: Saturday, March 31st 2012
